Batuanpainting.com was founded by Luh Resiki. Our mission is to support and promote artists working in the Batuan style.

Batuan painting traces its roots to the original Kamasan paintings that were done for religious purposes. It synthesizes elements of the Kamasan painting with western techniques of color and perspective (introduced by Bonnet and Spies) and takes these in directions that are uniquely Batuanese.

Historically the paintings have served as a bridge between Balinese artists and western visitors. The paintings introduce, explain and comment on subjects uniquely Balinese yet truly global. Issues dealt with range from daily life to Balinese mythology to religious belief. At its best, Batuan painting is gripping and stands side by side with the great artist traditions of the world.

The style has evolved over the last 80 years and been employed by over 200 unique artists who all originate in one village. It has a proud lineage and a number of vibrant artists working currently.
